Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane has been sentenced to 8 years in jail by the Kathmandu District Court after being found guilty of rape. A bench led by Justice Shishirraj Dhakal also ruled that Lamichhane would have to pay the victim a compensation of Rs 5 lakh. Apart from the imprisonment, Lamichhane has imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh and compensation of Rs 2 lakh, said Chandra Prasad Panthi, information officer of the District Court Kathmandu.
Briefing reporters about the verdict, Panthi said, “Changed name Gaushala 26 (6) (1) 079/080, keeping in view the age of the defendant Sandeep Lamichhane, social status and mental state of the defendant at the time of the incident.” Impact on victim: defendant Sandeep Lamichhane was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment under Section 2074 of the Criminal Code. Additionally, a fine of Rs 3 lakh was imposed as per section 219 (3) (a) (c), and, taking into account the mental impact on the victim, a fine of Rs 3 lakh was determined under section 228. According to Gaushala 26(6), it was decided to pay an additional amount of Rs 2 lakh to compensate the victim whom defendant Sandeep Lamichhane victimized. (1) 079/080.”
