How Does Two-Factor Authentication Work?

Two-factor authentication (also known as 2FA) is a security feature that adds an additional layer of security to your account. Two-factor authentication requires a verification number, which you can get via text, email, or a third-party app in addition to your login and password. Two-factor authentication, or 2FA, is sometimes known as two-step verification.

A username and password are required when logging onto a website. Two-factor authentication protects your login by requiring you to receive a temporary code before checking in.

You won’t be able to access your account unless you have a code, which is why two-factor authentication is such an important security measure. You’ll also need to have your phone charged and available (so you can get the 2FA code), which can be tough if you’re traveling abroad or in a dead zone.

The hassle of adding this extra layer of security is absolutely worth it. Although two-factor authentication isn’t flawless, it is far more secure than a username and password-only account.
