New Apple A16 chipset in iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max smartphones

According to experts, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max smartphones will receive the new Apple A16 chipset, improved cameras and two display cutouts. Lower models will be equipped with an A15 chip (it is used in the iPhone 13 line), a main camera with 12-megapixel sensors and a display with the same notch.

The iPhone 14 and 14 Max are expected to get a 5-core version of the GPU, as well as 6 GB of LPDDR4x RAM – so they will have an advantage over current models.

In turn, the older iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models will receive the Apple A16 SoC, which will include 18-20 billion transistors, while the predecessor uses 15 billion. Also, some improvements will be provided by the transition to ARMv9.

CPU performance is predicted to increase by only 15%. The configuration of the cores will be the same as in the predecessor – 2 productive and 4 energy efficient. The upgrade of iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max to the new LPDDR5 memory format will increase the bandwidth by 50% compared to models with LPDDR4x memory. Models will also receive 6 GB of RAM.

Regarding the GPU, it is predicted that Apple will stick to 5 cores in order not to make the chip too big. Perhaps the manufacturer will increase the number of cores to 6. In any case, GPU performance will increase by 25-30%. Apple will also have to improve ISP and machine learning hardware to handle the higher resolution of the main camera. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are rumored to have a 48-megapixel camera and support 8K video recording.
