The leak happened due to security problems with third-party applications downloaded from the App Store and Alphabet marketplaces. Often, malware is hidden under a regular photo editor.
Meta said they have informed Apple and Google of the issue. Dangerous applications were promptly removed from the open spaces of branded marketplaces.
