Microsoft announces new ChatGPT-based Bing and Edge

Microsoft has unveiled a new ChatGPT-enabled Bing and Edge browser based on the GPT 4 language model. The announcement was made at a special event on Microsoft’s Redmond campus, where CEO Satya Nadella showed off the company’s future plans for AI.

features

After Google introduced its ChatGPT competitor, Bard, Microsoft announced a new version of its Bing search engine and Edge browser. Microsoft said that Bing and Edge will work together to bring new ways to browse the web and that its AI-powered technology will redefine information discovery. According to the manufacturer, users will be able to get realistic answers to any questions that interest them.

Microsoft said that Bing will provide direct answers to questions and encourage users to be more creative. The updated search engine will run on OpenAI’s “new” next-generation language model, which is specially tuned for search. This time around, the company has integrated a new system called the “Prometheus Model” to increase relevancy and offer the most up-to-date answers.

Several search queries were demonstrated during the presentation. A query to compare Mexican artists resulted in a list of results with AI-generated answers in the right panel with annotated links (similar to the knowledge panel on a Google search results page). The search results page provided by Bing felt like a fusion of traditional search results and ChatGPT results, providing users with a better choice.

Bing also offers a separate “Chat” section in the top menu. A search query that prompted the host to ask the chatbot “travel tips for Mexico” offered a comprehensive list of things to do and a travel itinerary in response. The chat interface in Bing is very similar to ChatGPT, with the only difference being the addition of tabs for sources and reviews. The new Bing Chat can translate up to 100 languages.

The redesigned Edge browser has a fresh new look, rounded corners, and an intuitive user interface. The Bing Chat interface can be found on the right sidebar of Edge, making it easy for users to navigate without logging into Bing. The ability of the Edge browser to break down information was also noted, particularly by offering a quick summary of PDF files. Users can also ask Edge to help them create a LinkedIn post with just a few prompts. The browser can also assist users with the content and length of posts.

availability

Bing for Desktop is now available in “Limited Preview”. Users can attempt multiple requests and register for full access. In the coming weeks, it will be available to millions of people on both desktop and mobile devices.
